27/04/2010 - 4th month old!!!

Today......... I am 4th month old! Let's take a look at my progress and my wishes for the next few months :

Progress:
* I am more interactive. I can watch baby video and react with the songs and words. I giggle when daddy is making funny noises.
* I try to turn myself over. I can't manage to do so, and I do sleep by the side occasionally.
* I am able to complete 4oz of milk. Most often, I can complete within 10-15 minutes.
* In past weeks, I was cranky just before I slept for the night. This is history for now. All I need is 4oz of milk + rocking on sarong cradle to put me to sleep soundly.
* I wake up once every night, around 4-5am. On one occasion, I slept from 10pm to 6am! However, don't expect me to do so often :-)
* I don't cry anymore! Yah, I am an obedient daughter to my daddy and mummy!

Wishes:

* I wish to sleep throughout the night. Or at least, I attempt to wake up around 6-7am, so that daddy will be ready to feed me and prepare for work.
* I wish that I can sleep by myself on the baby cot. I have done so sometimes.
* I wish that I can sleep by myself on the rocking chair, so that mummy will not need to entertain me during the day. I have done so twice :-).

First Haircut!!

After exactly 4 months, I am finally having my first hair cut! Should I be excited over it? Or should I be SADDEN about it??!!

That's me before haircut

Stunned after haircut

"Upset"
As the pictures show, I am initially excited, followed by stunned expression!

Manicure - Complimentary Service by Daddy

Daddy helps with the manicure every week. No pedicure is required as my fingernails "outgrow" my toenails at "amazing" pace. :-)

3 Months Old - Development Milestone Checklist

I am 3 months old! With an article with mumcentre.com regarding the growth and development milestone, kindly allow me to review my progress vs the report. I have fared well for those that are hightlighted in BLUE. Well well well.... my progress is excellent!

Has it been three months already? Your baby is now probably much more awake and alert than he/ she has ever been before this. Now is also a great “hands-on” time for play and learning!
What your child might do:
Physically and mentally
Raises head and chest with better control when paced on tummy
• May roll from back to side
Is better at distinguishing visual details
Has better hand-eye coordination
Opens and closes hands
• Grasps and shakes toys
Likes dangling objects such as keys
Brings both hands together
Kicks more energetically and able to straighten legs
Imitates sounds
Has an established social smile
• Clearly knows the difference between caregivers and strangers
• Has better understanding of cause and effect

Language and emotions
Laughs
Has distinct cries for different needs
Makes longer vowel sounds

Feeding
A fluctuating appetite isn’t cause for great concern unless your baby is losing weight and seems dehydrated or listless. Speak to your doctor for specific advice on baby’s appropriate weight and feeding habits at this age.

Sleep
Help establish a good bedtime routine! Lay baby in the crib at the first signs of sleepiness for baby to learn to sleep on his/ her own.

Ideal toys for this age
• Floor gyms (with kicking toys)
• Activity mats
• Rattles and other hand toys such as colourful plastic keys on a ring

Useful tips
Choose toys that greatly encourage coordination and gross-motor skills. Reward baby with smiles and enthusiastic praise when he/ she shakes a rattle or kicks vigorously at a floor gym.

Feeding tips
The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding during your baby’s first 6 months and continued breastfeeding for as long as possible. Breast milk is best for babies 6 months and below because it has the right balance of nutrients – protein, fat, iron, calcium, vitamins and minerals – to suit baby’s needs. Breast milk has antibodies to protect infants from infection, it provides all the fluid that they need too. That is why mums should be encouraged to breastfeed for as long as it suits them and their baby.

Shopping at Jurong Point

This late afternoon, daddy and mummy brought me to Jurong Point. How do they achieve that with my "attitude"?

Well, daddy used a carrier to carry me in front of him. He knew that was one of the most comfortable posture for me. Also, using a pram didn't work for me often, and a pram may became a "burden" if I was reluctant to use it.

The outcome was, everything was smooth. I dozed off after quite sometimes. When it was dinner time, mummy fed daddy and herself, oh soooooo romantic.... The fact was also, someone had to take care of me, and daddy decided he shall sit still in order not to disturb my sleep...

It was after the dinner that granny met us at Jurong Point. And it was also time for my milk session!!! hooooo..... it took some effort to get an empty seat (ok... there is one uncle who gave up his seat for us.. cheers to him!). Apparently, with so much crowd, I was distracted and managed to finish 1/4 of the bottle only. We decided to continue our grocery shopping at NTUC before I became cranky again. True enough, I was feeling "uneasy" on my stomach again, and that was when mummy had to feed me again. This time, we found the seat at NTUC itself. I managed to finished the whole milk bottle. Well, that didn't mean I was satisfied and going to be quiet.

Daddy always disliked when I made noises. Whether it was due to coldness in the shopping center or whatever reason, we have decided to walk home instead of taking an air-con bus. Poor mummy, she had to carry so much stuff : infant bag, groceries, etc...

Eventually, we have reached home, and I could see the relieve from daddy and mummy. Okok... actually, it wasn't that bad, daddy was just being sooooooo critical.... I am just an infant, ok! And infant needs attention! attention! attention!
